Useful information about JP2

Extension: JP2
Name: JPEG 2000 File
Mime Type: image/jp2
Converter: JP2 Converter
Description: JPEG 2000 (JP2) is an image compression standard and coding system. It was developed from 1997 to 2000 by a Joint Photographic Experts Group committee chaired by Touradj Ebrahimi (later the JPEG president), with the intention of superseding their original JPEG standard (created in 1992), which is based on a discrete cosine transform (DCT), with a newly designed, wavelet-based method. The standardized filename extension is .jp2 for ISO/IEC 15444-1 conforming files and .jpx for the extended part-2 specifications, published as ISO/IEC 15444-2. The registered MIME types are defined in RFC 3745. For ISO/IEC 15444-1 it is image/jp2. - Source

Useful information about PTIF

Extension: PTIF
Name: Pyramid Encoded TIFF
Mime Type: image/tiff
Converter: PTIF Converter
Description: PTIF is a tag-based file format for storing and interchanging raster images. A TIFF file can hold multiple images in a single file. The term "Pyramid TIFF" is used to describe a TIFF file that wraps a sequence of bitmaps that each represent the same image at increasingly coarse spatial resolutions. The individual images may be compressed or tiled. Compression is used when storage space savings are significant; tiling may yield more efficient delivery when most use involves zooming into image sections rather than viewing the whole. The term Pyramid TIFF or pyramid-encoded TIFF has been applied to different approaches, each based on valid internal TIFF structures, that have been used to support dynamic delivery of the underlying image at different spatial resolutions. - Source
